Comment: Source 1 is IMDb, which is unreliable. BGFX is his own site/company, and isn't independent, and 2&6 are both not in-depth enough. monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 18:06, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

Barrie Gower was born and raised in northern England by his father who operated a cinema.[1] Growing up, he gained a passion for art and sculpture but did not feel optimistic due to coming from an un-wealthy background. Gower was initially rejected from London College of Fashion due to a lack of experience, so his mother enrolled him in a hairdressing course which led to him being accepted to and later graduating from London College of Fashion in 1996.[3]
Career
He first secured a role in the BBC Visual Effects department and worked on projects such as 'Silent Witness' and 'Red Dwarf'[4]. Following this, Gower was hired to work on Saving Private Ryan. This launched his career and led to him working for more notable names such as Rick Baker and Wētā Workshop. During this time, he worked in the prosthetic department for The Wolfman (film) [5]and The Iron Lady (film) [6]which won Academy Awards.
After around a decade of freelancing on large-scale projects and working for the Harry Potter (film series), Barrie started his own company: BGFX, with his wife Sarah as a prosthetic designer.[4] [7] They started BGFX in 2010 and the company has since become well-affiliated with HBO due to the Gowers' work on Game of Thrones.
