Angus Olliver
Angus Lawrence Olliver (born 19 April 2003) is a New Zealand cricketer who plays domestic cricket for the Auckland Aces. A right-handed batter and right-arm medium-fast bowler, he made his senior domestic debut during the 2023–24 season and has competed in First-Class, List A and Twenty20 formats.[1]
Early life
Olliver was born on 19 April 2003 in Auckland. He attended Auckland Grammar School, where he played for the First XI cricket team. He progressed through the Auckland cricket pathway and represented the Auckland University Cricket Club before advancing to professional domestic cricket.
Olliver has two siblings, and his parents are well-known figures in New Zealand.
Domestic career
Olliver made his domestic debut for Auckland during the 2023–24 season, featuring across multiple formats. He became part of the Auckland Aces contracted squad for the 2024–25 season.
List A cricket
Olliver made his List A debut against Canterbury in the Ford Trophy, opening the bowling and recording figures of 3/42, including the wicket of Chad Bowes.[2]
Twenty20 cricket
In the Super Smash competition, Olliver has featured regularly in Auckland’s bowling attack. His best Twenty20 figures are 3/28.[3] In a Super Smash match against Northern Districts[4], he bowled four overs for 41 runs and took one wicket, and in a fixture against the Wellington Firebirds he claimed two wickets.[5]
First-Class cricket
Olliver has appeared in First-Class matches for Auckland in the Plunket Shield, contributing as a seam bowler and lower-order batter.
Representative cricket
In November 2024, Olliver was selected for the New Zealand Prime Minister’s XI, an invitational representative side, to play a two-day warm-up match against the touring England team at Sir John Davies Oval in Queenstown.[6] The fixture was held ahead of England’s Test series in New Zealand, and Olliver featured as part of the playing XI.[7]
Playing style
Olliver is a right-arm medium-fast bowler known for his energy and consistency. He bats right-handed and typically contributes in the lower order.
