Mrs. Alice Afuma Appea also known as Grandma Alice of SOS Children's Village was a Ghanaian nurse, peace activist, and social welfare advocate known for her contributions to child welfare and women-led peace initiatives in Ghana. [1]She was associated with the early development of SOS Children's Villages Ghana [2] and served in leadership within the Ghana chapter of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.

Early life and Education

She was born in Kukurantumi on the 14th of November 1906 to Opanyin Nicholas Kwesi Nimoh who was a farmer and later became the purchasing officer for the Akyem Cocoa District Area, her mother was Sophia Amma Donkor of the royal house of Asuoga Kpalime in the Volta Region.[2]

Career and social welfare work

Following her nursing training, Appea became involved in social welfare initiatives focused on vulnerable children and family support.

She played an early organisational role in the development of SOS Children's Villages Ghana, where she became publicly associated with child welfare efforts and community support programmes [3]
