Alex Jeffrey Pretti (November 9, 1988 – January 24, 2026) was a 37-year-old intensive care nurse and United States citizen who lived in the Lyndale neighborhood of Minneapolis.[2] In January 2026, he was shot and killed by border patrol agents.[3][4]

Early life and education

Pretti was born at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, a northwestern suburb city of the Chicago metropolitan area in Illinois, to a family with northern Italian ancestry.[5][6] He grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and was a member of the Green Bay Boy Choir and a boy scout.[7] He graduated from the public Preble High School in 2006.[7][8] He then attended the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, where he received a bachelor's degree with a major in biology, society and environment in 2011.[7][9][10]
