Aaron Voon-Yew Thean is a Singaporean engineer and academic administrator who serves as Provost and Deputy President (Academic Affairs) of the National University of Singapore (NUS).[1][2] He is a professor in the NUS Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.[3]

Early life and education

Thean received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.[4]

Career

Research and industry

Before joining NUS, Thean worked in the semiconductor industry and research sector, including senior roles at imec and Qualcomm.[5] His work has focused on advanced transistor and nanoelectronics technologies, and he has published in the microelectronics field.[4]

National University of Singapore

Thean joined NUS and later served as dean of the NUS College of Design and Engineering.[1] In February 2023, NUS announced his appointment as Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost, effective 1 April 2023, following the departure of the previous provost Ho Teck Hua.[2][1]

Honours

Thean received a distinguished alumni award from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.[3]
