Ρωμαϊκή Αυτοκρατορία
- 1 Ιανουαρίου – Έτος των Πέντε Αυτοκρατόρων: Η Ρωμαϊκή σύγκλητος επιλέγει τον Πέρτιναξ για να διαδεχθεί τον Κόμμοδο ως Ρωμαίος αυτοκράτορας.
- Ο Πέρτιναξ αναγκάζεται να αναδιοργανώσει τη διαχείριση των οικονομικών, να αποκαταστήσει την πειθαρχία στο ρωμαϊκό στρατό και να αναστείλει τα επισιτιστικά προγράμματα που θεσμοθετήθηκαν από τον Τραϊανό, προκαλώντας την οργή της Πραιτωριανής Φρουράς.
- 28 Μαρτίου – Ο Πέρτιναξ δολοφονείται από Πραιτωριανούς φρουρούς, οι οποίοι στη συνέχεια πωλούν σε δημοπρασία το θρόνο στον Δίδιο Ιουλιανό.
- 9 Απριλίου – Ο Σεπτίμιος Σεβήρος, διοικητής της Άνω Παννονίας ανακηρύσσεται Ρωμαίος αυτοκράτορας από το στρατό του. Στη συνέχεια βαδίζει με το στρατό του προς τη Ρώμη.[1]
- 1 Ιουνίου – Δολοφονείται ο Ρωμαίος αυτοκράτορας Δίδιος Ιουλιανός.
