Volcano F​

Der Volcano F ist ein submariner Vulkan im Bereich der Tongainseln im Südpazifik. Er liegt im Bereich des vulkanischen Inselbogens, der durch die Subduktionszone am Kermadec-Tonga-Graben erzeugt wird. Es handelt sich um eine ca. 8,7 mal 6 km weite und ca. 700 m tiefe Caldera, deren höchste Stelle am Rand nur 35 m unter der Wasseroberfläche liegt. Der gesamte Vulkan ragt ca. 1 km über den Ozeanboden auf.

Der Vulkan wurde im September 2001 entdeckt, als er ausbrach, und wurde dann 2004 kartiert. Seine Eruption erzeugte eine Eruptionssäule und Bimssteinflöße. Der Chemismus des Eruptionsmaterials ist dazitisch.[1][2] Weitere Ausbrüche folgten im August 2019[3] und im März 2020.[4]
