Thomas Liley

Thomas Liley (* 29. September 1944 in Topeka, Kansas; † 22. Januar 2013 in Naperville, Illinois) war ein US-amerikanischer Saxophonist, Musikpädagoge und Sachbuchautor.

Leben

Liley absolvierte seinen Militärdienst als Mitglied der US Navy Band in Washington, D.C. und studierte bei Eugene Rousseau an der Indiana University Bloomington, wo er den Doktortitel in Saxophon mit Auszeichnung erhielt. Er war Professor für Musik am Joliet Junior College, war Gastprofessor für Saxophon an der Indiana University, der University of Minnesota, der Kansas State University und der University of Iowa und gab jährlich Sommerkurse am Shell Lake Arts Center in Wisconsin.

Er war Gründungsmitglied des World Saxophone Congress und Mitglied des International Saxophone Committee sowie Vorstandsmitglied und Leiter der Abteilung für wissenschaftliche Publikationen der North American Saxophone Alliance. Als Musiker und Dozent bereiste er die Vereinigten Staaten sowie Kanada, China, Osteuropa, Hongkong und Thailand. Neben seiner Tätigkeit als Musiker und Lehrer und Dozent verfasste er Bücher zu verschiedenen Themen rund um das Saxophon. Er war mit der Pianistin Nancy Liley verheiratet.
