Terry Fields

Terence Fields (* 8. März 1937 in Bootle; † 28. Juni 2008 in Netherton, Sefton) war ein britischer Politiker der Labour Party.

Leben

Fields arbeitete von seinem 20. Lebensjahr bis zur Wahl zum Abgeordneten des House of Commons 1983 bei der Feuerwehr von Merseyside. Von 1983 bis 1992 saß er im britischen Unterhaus - bis Dezember 1991 für die Labour Party, die letzten Monate seiner Amtszeit als unabhängiger Abgeordneter.[1]

Im Dezember 1991 wurde Fields wegen radikaler Ansichten (Militant tendencies) aus der Labour Party ausgeschlossen. Zuvor war er im Juli 1991 zu sechzig Tagen Gefängnis verurteilt worden, da er sich weigerte seine Kopfsteuer (poll tax) in Höhe von 373 £ zu bezahlen. Er erhielt damit eine der höchsten Haftstrafen wegen Weigerung der Zahlung der 1990 von Margaret Thatcher eingeführten Kopfsteuer.[2]

Bei der Wahl 1992 trat er als Unabhängiger an, erreichte aber nur 14 % der Stimmen.[2]

Fields starb im Juni 2008 im Alter von 71 Jahren an Lungenkrebs. Er war verheiratet und hatte drei Kinder, zwei Söhne und eine Tochter.[1]
