Table Head ist ein Wohnviertel (englisch Neighborhood) im Norden von Glace Bay. Es liegt an der Ostküste der Kap-Breton-Insel und ist Teil der kanadischen Provinz Nova Scotia.

Geschichte

Zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts spielte dieser Ort eine bedeutsame Rolle in der Geschichte der Funktechnik, nachdem im Jahr 1902 der italienische Funkpionier und Unternehmer Guglielmo Marconi (1874–1937) hier seine erste kommerzielle Sende- und Empfangsanlage errichtet hatte. Die Funkstelle bestand aus vier 60 m hohen Masten, die in den Ecken eines Quadrats von 60 m Kantenlänge angeordnet waren und eine Antenne aus Kupferdrähten in Form einer umgekehrten Pyramide trugen. In der Mitte der Anordnung befand sich das Sende- und Empfangshaus sowie ein kleines Kraftwerk. Am Südrand des Geländes gab es eine Unterkunft für die Telegrafisten. Die Anlage wurde 1904 demontiert und auf einem größeren Gelände knapp 10 km weiter südlich neu errichtet.[1]

Heute gibt es hier die Marconi National Historic Site, ein Technikmuseum an historischem Ort.[2]
