Stäbe ist eine der lateinischen Farben, zusammen mit Kelche, Münzen und Schwerter. Diese vier Farben kommen in Kartenblättern italienischer, portugiesischer und spanischer Art vor[1].

Stäbe ist eine der „langen Farben“, zusammen mit Schwerter, im Gegensatz zu den „kurzen Farben“ Münzen und Kelche[2]. Die Farbe entspricht dem Kreuz des französischen Blatts und der Eichel des deutschen Blatts[3].
