Stanley Butler

Stanley Meredith Butler (* 5. März 1910 in London; † 24. Mai 1993 in London Borough of Bromley) war ein britischer Radrennfahrer und nationaler Meister im Radsport.

Sportliche Laufbahn

Butler war im Straßenradsport und im Bahnradsport aktiv. Er war Teilnehmer der Olympischen Sommerspiele 1932 in Los Angeles. Im olympischen Einzelzeitfahren belegte er Platz 16. In der Mannschaftswertung erreichte das britische Team mit Stanley Butler, Charles Holland, Frank Southall und William Gladstone Harvell den 4. Platz.

1939 wurde er britischer Vizemeister im Einzelzeitfahren über 50 Meilen hinter George Fleming. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs fuhr er vorrangig Bahnrennen und stellte mit Frank Southall mehrere britische Rekorde im Tandemrennen auf. 1950 stellte er einen britischen 24-Stundenrekord von gefahrenen 737 Kilometern (458,18 Meilen) auf. Damit wurde ihm der britische Meistertitel zuerkannt.

Sein Sohn Keith Butler und sein Enkel Gethin Butler waren ebenfalls im Radsport aktiv.
