Standby bzw. Stand-by (von englisch stand by für Beistehen, Dabeistehen, Danebenstehen; auch Sich-Bereithalten oder Bereitstehen) steht für:
- Bereitschaftsbetrieb eines technischen Geräts
- Bereitschaftsdienst in der Wirtschaft, insbesondere bei allen öffentlichen Berufen
- Stand-by-Kredit, im Bankwesen und beim Internationalen Währungsfonds ein Beistandskredit
- Stand-by-Profi, in Mannschaftssportarten einen Spieler, der nur im äußersten Bedarfsfall zum Einsatz kommt
- das Warten auf eine Mitfluggelegenheit am Flughafen, siehe Flugbuchung #Warteliste (Stand-By)
