Slater Mill und die benachbarte Wilkinson Mill

Die Slater Mill ist eine ehemalige wassergetriebene Textilmühle in Pawtucket im US-Bundesstaat Rhode Island und hat den Status eines National Historic Landmarks („Nationales historisches Wahrzeichen“).

Geschichte

Die Fabrik wurde 1793 von Samuel Slater am Ufer des Blackstone River errichtet. Sie gilt als Wiege der industriellen Revolution in den Vereinigten Staaten.

Die Baumwollspinnerei wurde bis 1895 betrieben. Danach wurde die Mühle bis 1923 für verschiedene industrielle Zwecke eingesetzt. 1955 wurde sie als Museum eröffnet.

Am 13. November 1966 wurde sie unter der Bezeichnung Old Slater Mill als Objekt in das National Register of Historic Places („Nationales Verzeichnis historischer Orte“; NRHP).[1] Am gleichen Tag erfolgte die Anerkennung als National Historic Landmark.[2]
