Scot Sutherland (* 31. Januar 1969 in Iowa, USA) ist ein US-amerikanischer Bassist, der in den Bereichen Blues, Jazz, Funk und Soul tätig ist.[1]

Leben und Wirken

Sutherland begann mit 14 Jahren, Bass zu spielen. Ab 1987 spielte er professionell in Iowa und Chicago. Er trat mit zahlreichen bekannten Musikern auf, darunter Pinetop Perkins, Son Seals, Bob Margolin, Elvin Bishop, Steve Cropper, Mike Zito und viele andere. Von 2006 bis 2012 war er Mitglied der Tommy Castro Band, die 2010 einen Blues Music Award (BMA) als Band des Jahres gewann. Daneben war Sutherland mehrfach BMA-nominiert, etwa 2012 erneut mit der Tommy Castro Band sowie 2010 mit deren Album Hard Believer in der Kategorie „Best Contemporary Blues Album“. Sutherland selbst war 2013 als Bassist des Jahres nominiert. Dazu gab es BMA-Nominierungen als „Best Rock Blues Album“ für die Alben Keep Coming Back (Mike Zito & the Wheels, 2015) und Big Dog (Albert Castiglia, 2016), an denen Sutherland als Bassist beteiligt war.[2][3][4]

2012 wurde Sutherland Mitglied von Mike Zitos Band The Wheels, 2014 trat er zusätzlich der Band von Samantha Fish bei. 2016 begann er, mit Albert Cummings weltweit auf Tour zu gehen, 2018 mit Mike Ledbetter und Monster Mike Welch als Welch-Ledbetter Connection. 2018 wurde Sutherland in die Iowa Blues Hall of Fame aufgenommen. 2019 erhielt er eine weitere BMA-Nominierung als Bassist und gewann einen Blues Music Award mit der Welch-Ledbetter Connection als Band des Jahres.[2][3][4]

Bei den Blues Music Awards 2026 wurde Scot Sutherland als Bassist des Jahres ausgezeichnet.[5]
