Geschichte
Die Ursprünge von Ryder System, Inc. Liegen im Jahr 1933 in Miami, als James Ryder einen gebrauchten Ford Modell A kaufte, um Beton zu transportieren. 1938 stieg Ryder durch einen Vertrag mit einer Brauerei in das Geschäft für Lkw-Leasing ein. Ein damals recht neues Modell, das Unternehmen den Zugang zu Fahrzeugen ohne hohe Investitionskosten ermöglichte.[2]
Das Jahr 1955 markierte die offizielle Gründung der Ryder System, Inc. durch die Fusion von Ryder Truck Rental und Great Southern Trucking. Im selben Jahr erfolgte der Börsengang des Unternehmens.[3]
