Richard Andrew

Richard Andrew (* 9. Januar 1869 in Belfast, Irland; † 1956 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, USA) war ein US-amerikanischer Maler, Wandmaler, Kunstpädagoge und Grafiker irischer Herkunft.[1]

Leben

Richard Andrew wurde am 9. Januar 1869 in Belfast geboren und wanderte später in die Vereinigten Staaten aus. Er lebte und arbeitete zuletzt in Boston, Massachusetts. Seine künstlerische Ausbildung erhielt er an der Normal Art School in Boston, wo er Schüler von Dennis Miller Bunker war. Anschließend setzte er sein Studium in Paris an der Académie Julian und an der École des Beaux-Arts fort, unter anderem bei Jean-Paul Laurens und Jean-Léon Gérôme. Richard Andrew war Mitglied der Guild of Boston Artists. In Boston war er zudem als Lehrer an der Massachusetts School of Art tätig.[1]

Werk

Richard Andrew schuf Porträts, Wandgemälde und Radierungen. Zu seinen bekannten Bildnissen zählen Werke wie Miss B. and her dog Teddy und Schoolgirl. Als Wandmaler fertigte er unter anderem Arbeiten im Bostoner State House an, darunter die Wandmalerei in der Hall of Valor. Weitere dekorative Arbeiten entstanden für Privatbauten.[1]
