Point Wild ist eine Landspitze an der Nordküste von Elephant Island im Archipel der Südlichen Shetlandinseln. Sie liegt 11 km westlich des Kap Valentine,[1] 800 m östlich des Kap Belsham und markiert die östliche Begrenzung der Caleta Salvador Reyes. In direkter Nachbarschaft befindet sich der Furness-Gletscher. Die exakten Koordinaten von Point Wild sind 61°05'53.0''S and 54°51'39.3''W.[2]

Der britische Polarforscher Ernest Shackleton benannte sie im Zuge der Endurance-Expedition (1914–1917) als Kap Wild. Namensgeber ist der britische Polarforscher Frank Wild (1873–1939), der bei dieser Forschungsreise nach dem Untergang der Endurance die Mannschaft anführte, die an dieser Landspitze vier Monate lang auf die Rettung durch Shackleton im August 1916 wartete.

Büste des Piloto Pardo

An dieser Stelle wurde eine Büste von Kapitän Luis Alberto Pardo mit einem Monolithen und einer Gedenktafeln aufgestellt, um die Rettung der Überlebenden der Endurance durch die Yelcho zu feiern.[2] In Chile ist dieser Kapitän unter dem Namen Piloto Pardo bekannt. Die spanische Inschrift lautet:[3]

«La Armada de Chile en hommaje al piloto 2.° Luis Pardo Villalon
Comandante de la escampavia ‹Yelcho›, quien, el 30 de agosto de 1916 rescato de la isla elefante a los naufragos del ‹Endurance› nave de la expedicion Britanica de Sir Ernest Shackleton que fue destrozad por los hielos y hundida el 21 de noviembre de 1915.

Der Monolith und die Gedenktafeln wurden auf Elephant Island aufgestellt, ihre Nachbildungen auf den chilenischen Stützpunkten Arturo-Prat-Station (62°30'S, 59°49'W) und Base Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva (62°12'S, 62°12'W) aufgestellt. Bronzebüsten des Kapitäns wurden während der 42. Chilenischen Antarktisexpedition (1987–1988) auf den drei oben genannten Monolithen aufgestellt.[4]
