Nackthund
Als Nackthund werden Haushunde (Canis lupus familiaris) bezeichnet, die weitgehend oder vollständig haarlos sind. Ursächlich ist eine Mutation im Gen FOXI3 auf dem Chromosom 17. Vermutlich stammen alle heutigen Nackthunderassen von einem einzigen Gründertier ab, einem Xoloitzcuintle (Mexikanischer Nackthund). Der Xoloitzcuintle wurde von den Azteken als heiliges Tier verehrt. Es gibt ihn seit mindestens 3700 Jahren, die ältesten Statuen von Nackthunden wurden auf 1700 v. Chr. datiert.
Neben dem Xoloitzcuintle und dem Ägyptischen Nackthund gelten Afrikanischer Nackthund, American Hairless Terrier und Peruanischer Nackthund (Viringo) als Nackthunderassen.
