NGC 980 ist eine leuchtschwache linsenförmige Galaxie vom Hubble-Typ S0 im Sternbild Andromeda am Nordsternhimmel. Sie ist schätzungsweise 262 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 130.000 Lichtjahren. Vom Sonnensystem aus entfernt sich die Galaxie mit einer errechneten Radialgeschwindigkeit von näherungsweise 5700 Kilometern pro Sekunde. Wahrscheinlich bildet sie gemeinsam mit NGC 982 ein gebundenes Galaxienpaar.

Die Typ-Ia-Supernova iPTF 13ebh wurde hier beobachtet.[4]

Das Objekt wurde am 17. Oktober 1786 von Wilhelm Herschel entdeckt.[5]
