NGC 4500 ist eine Balken-Spiralgalaxie mit hoher Sternentstehungsrate vom Hubble-Typ SBa[2] im Sternbild Großer Bär am Nordsternhimmel. Sie ist schätzungsweise 143 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 65.000 Lj.

Das Objekt wurde am 17. April 1789 von dem deutsch-britischen Astronomen William Herschel mithilfe seines 18,7 Zoll-Spiegelteleskops entdeckt.[3]
