Lage

Die Gemeinde Montaron liegt im Arontal, etwa 50 Kilometer östlich von Nevers am Rand des Regionalen Naturparks Morvan. Umgeben wird Montaron von den Nachbargemeinden Isenay im Westen und Norden, Vandenesse im Norden und Osten, Rémilly im Südosten sowie Thaix im Süden und Westen.
