Metopocarcinus ist eine Gattung der Panopeidae mit zwei Arten.[1] Sie besiedeln die Gezeitenzone im tropischen Ostpazifik und in der gemäßigten Klimazone Südamerikas von Mexiko im Norden bis Chile im Süden.[2]

Merkmale

Der Carapax ist bis zu 5,6 mm lang und ebenso breit. Die Stirn ist zweilappig und konkav. Die Stirn-Augenhöhlenbreite ist bei Adulten größer als die halbe Carapaxbreite. Der vordere Seitenrand ist ohne vorderen Lappen, am Seitenrand treten drei Lappen auf. Der Oberrand der Carpi der ersten drei Schreitbeine ist konvex und nicht zweilappig wie bei Lophopanopeus oder Milnepanopeus.[2]
