Magwe, auch Magway, ist die Hauptstadt der Magwe-Division, einer der 15 Verwaltungseinheiten Myanmars. Ihre Bevölkerungszahl beim Zensus 2014 belief sich auf 289.247.[1] Die Stadt liegt am Irawaddy.

Geschichte

Bis zur Eröffnung der Eisenbahn nach Magwe am 17. April 1999 war die Stadt nur auf dem Luft- oder Wasserweg erreichbar.[2]

Infrastruktur

Von Magwe aus besteht Flussschifffahrt nach Yangon (897 Flusskilometer) und Nyaung U (152 Flusskilometer).[2]

Über den Fluss gibt es hier eine Straßenbrücke nach Minbu, die Ende 2012 eingeweiht wurde.[2]

Magwe besitzt einen Bahnhof. Hier endet eine Stichstrecke, die die Stadt an die Bahnstrecke Pyinmana–Mandalay anbindet.[2]
