John Paul Clow Laband (* 18. März 1947 in Johannesburg; † 5. August 2025 in Greyton)^[1][2] war ein südafrikanischer Historiker und Schriftsteller, mit Forschungsschwerpunkten zum Zulukrieg und den Burenkriegen.

John Laband lehrte und forschte 42 Jahre an Universitäten in Südafrika, England und Kanada.^[3][1] Im Verlaufe seiner wissenschaftlichen Tätigkeit veröffentlichte er mehrere Werke über die Militärgeschichte des südlichen Afrikas und die Geschichte der Zulu. Dabei widmete er sich besonders dem Anglo-Zulu-Krieg von 1879.

John Laband war Professor^[4] und Lehrstuhlinhaber für Geschichte an der Wilfrid Laurier University in Kanada und Mitglied von Clare Hall (Cambridge University).^[5] Ferner war Laband Fellow der University of KwaZulu-Natal sowie wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Universität Stellenbosch.^[6]

John Laband lebte im Ruhestand in Greyton.^[3] Dort starb er am 5. August 2025 im Alter von 78 Jahren.^[2]
