Howard Morphy (* 13. Juni 1947 in Hampton/London) ist ein britischer Ethnologe und Hochschullehrer.^[1]

Howard Morphy studierte Ethnologie am University College London und legte dort 1969 bzw. 1972 die Bachelor- und Magisterprüfung ab. Seit 1973 betrieb er intensive ethnologische Forschungen bei den Aborigines in Australien und beschäftigte sich vor allem mit ihrer Kunst. Im Jahre 1977 promovierte er an der Australian National University zum Ph.D. Anschließend arbeitete er dort als Hochschullehrer. Im Jahre 1986 übernahm er eine Stelle als Kurator am Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford und war gleichzeitig Dozent an der University of Oxford. 1996 wurde er Professor am University College London und ein Jahr später (1997) an der Australian National University. Dort lehrte er bis zu seiner Emeritierung 2013. Er gehört zahlreichen wissenschaftlichen Fachgesellschaften an und beschäftigt sich u. a. auch auf dem Gebiet der Darstellung seiner Forschungsarbeit in den Medien und kuratiert Ausstellungen am National Museum of Australia.
