Lage der Verwaltungsregion Gorgol in Mauretanien

Gorgol (arabisch ولاية كوركول, DMG Wilāyat Kūrkūl) ist eine Verwaltungsregion im Süden des westafrikanischen Landes Mauretanien. Ihr Name ist abgeleitet von dem Fluss Gorgol, der bei der Hauptstadt Kaédi in den Senegal mündet.[1]

Geografie

Das Gebiet von Gorgol liegt in der Sahelzone im Süden Mauretaniens und reicht bis in die Schwemmlandebene des Grenzflusses Senegal. Die Verwaltungsregion hat eine Fläche von 13.600 km².[2] Benachbarte Verwaltungsregionen sind im Uhrzeigersinn Brakna und Assaba im Norden und im Osten Guidimaka.

Die Bevölkerungszahl der Region hat in den Jahren 2000 bis 2023 von 242.711 auf 442.490 Einwohner zugenommen.[2]
