Diasystem

In der Linguistik bezeichnet ein Diasystem ein theoretisches Konstrukt, das zwei oder mehr eng verwandte Sprachvarietäten innerhalb eines übergeordneten Rahmens darstellt. Der Begriff wurde von Uriel Weinreich (1954) eingeführt, um systematische Entsprechungen zwischen Dialekten oder Sprachen – insbesondere in ihrer Phonologie und Grammatik – zu modellieren. Ein Diasystem beschreibt keine tatsächlich gesprochene Varietät, sondern ein abstraktes System, das mehrere verwandte Systeme vereinigt und dabei sowohl ihre gemeinsamen Merkmale als auch ihre Unterschiede aufzeigt.[1]

Diasysteme wurden als Instrumente zur Analyse von Dialektkontinua, von bilingualer Kompetenz und von Sprachvariation vorgeschlagen. Das Konzept ist jedoch in seiner Praktikabilität kritisiert worden. Da Sprecher in der Regel konkrete Varietäten beherrschen und nicht ein abstraktes Diasystem, argumentieren manche Linguisten, dass das Modell außerhalb der vergleichenden Analyse nur einen begrenzten beschreibenden Wert hat.
