Der Colt New Police Revolver ist ein Double-Action-Revolver mit sechs Schuss, der auch im Single-Action-Modus abgefeuert werden kann. Diese Waffe wurde für das Kaliber .32 New Police ausgelegt, das dem .32 S&W Long sehr ähnlich ist.[1] Zusätzlich zur Patrone .32 New Police war der Revolver auch in der Variante für das Kaliber .32 Colt erhältlich.

Der Colt New Police wurde zwischen 1896 und 1907 von der Colt Manufacturing Company in Hartford, Connecticut hergestellt. Die Visierung bestand aus einem festen Korn mit runder Spitze vorne und einer genuteten Kimme hinten. Der Revolver war mit einem 2½-Zoll (6,35 cm), 4-Zoll (10,16 cm) oder 6-Zoll-Lauf (15,24 cm) erhältlich und wurde entweder brüniert oder vernickelt angeboten. Die Griffschalen bestanden aus Hartgummi. Im Jahr 1896 wurde der Colt New Police vom Polizeikommissar von New York City, Theodore Roosevelt, als erste Standarddienstwaffe für die Beamten des NYPD ausgewählt.[2][3]

Eine Sportschützenversion wurde bis 1905 mit einem 6-Zoll-Lauf (15,24 cm) und verstellbarer Visierung hergestellt.[4]

Der New Police Revolver wurde 1907 im Colt-Katalog durch den verbesserten Colt Police Positive ersetzt, der über eine interne Schlagbolzensicherung und ein verbessertes Schloss verfügte.
