Cheiroplatea ist eine Gattung der Einsiedlerkrebse mit acht Arten.[1] Sie besiedeln den Kontinentalhang in Tiefen zwischen 291 und 1156 m im tropischen Westatlantik sowie im zentralen und westlichen Indopazifik.[2]

Merkmale

Die Gattung hat die Merkmale der Pylochelidae. Das Rückenschild (der verknöcherte vordere Teil des Carapax) ist bis zu 13 mm lang. Die hintere Portion des Telsons ist nicht in zwei Lappen untergliedert. Die Augenstiele sind weniger als halb so lang wie der Schild. Die Cornea (körperferner Teil des Augenstiels mit den Facettenaugen) ist konisch, reduziert und kaum pigmentiert. Die Scheren der Scherenbeine bilden den Deckel (Operculum) zum Verschluss der Wohnhöhle. Ihre Carpi tragen vorn-rückenseitig eine erhöhte Facette, die den Hinterrand überragt.[2]
