Die Castel Bay ist eine Bucht an der Nordküste der zu den kanadischen Nordwest-Territorien gehörenden Banksinsel. Die Bucht liegt im Aulavik-Nationalpark. Sie ist Teil des Zugvogelschutzgebietes Banks Island No. 2.
Lage
Die an der Nordküste der Banksinsel gelegene Castel Bay öffnet sich zur M’Clure Strait hin. Sie bildet die Mündungsbucht des Thomsen River. Die Castel Bay hat eine Buchttiefe von etwa 11 km sowie eine mittlere Breite von 4 km. Sie liegt 15 km westlich der größeren Bucht Mercy Bay.
Namensgebung
Benannt wurde die Bucht von Vilhjálmur Stefánsson nach Aarnout Castel, ein aus Vlissingen stammender Polarforscher.[1] Dieser entdeckte 1916 auf seiner Suche nach den vermissten Polarforschern Peter Bernard und Charles (Karl) Thomsen die bis dahin unkartierte Bucht.[1]
