Car Assembly Ltd. war ein Hersteller von Automobilen aus Malta.[1]

Unternehmensgeschichte

Die Mizzi-Organisation gründete 1960 das Unternehmen in Marsa zur Montage von Automobilen im CKD-Verfahren.[1] Die Lizenzen für die Produktion kamen von ausländischen Herstellern.[1] Zeitweise hielt das Unternehmen 55 % Marktanteil auf Malta.[1] Exportländer waren Griechenland[1], Israel[1][2], Jamaika[1][3] und Tunesien[1]. 1974 wurde Maurice F. Mizzi Direktor.[3] Unter seiner Leitung wurde die Produktion auf 8 Fahrzeuge täglich erhöht.[3] 1981 endete die Produktion.[1] Andere Quellen geben den Produktionszeitraum mit 1960 bis 1980[4] bzw. mit 1961 bis 1977[5] an. Insgesamt entstanden mehr als 2000 Fahrzeuge.[5]

Fahrzeuge

Das erste Modell war der Triumph Herald.[1][3][6] 1961 ergänzten ein Modell von Dodge sowie der Hillman Minx das Angebot.[1] Später folgten der Mini[1][6], Austin und Morris 1100 und 1300[1], Hillman Hunter[3], Morris Oxford Series VID mit Dieselmotor[3], Rover P 6 2000[1] und Triumph Spitfire[7]. Letztes Modell war der Morris Marina.[1] Neben Personenkraftwagen entstanden auch Nutzfahrzeuge. Genannt sind Modelle von Commer[1] sowie der Triumph Herald Courier[2]. Der Alfa Romeo Alfasud war das einzige italienische Modell.[1]
