Canadian Apartment Properties REIT (kurz CAPREIT) ist ein Kanadischer börsennotierter Anbieter von Wohnraum. Der in Toronto ansässige REIT konzentriert sich primär auf den Besitz und die Verwaltung von Mehrfamilienhäusern, Stadthäusern sowie „Manufactured Home Communities“.

Geschichte

CAPREIT wurde gegründet im Jahr 1996 durch Thomas Schwartz und Michael Stein.[1]

Das Unternehmen startete mit einem Portfolio von etwa 2.900 Wohneinheiten in Ontario und ging im Mai 1997 an die Toronto Stock Exchange.[1]

2004 konnte durch die Übernahme des Konkurrenten Residential Equities REIT für rund 500 Millionen CAD das Portfolio nahezu auf über 24.000 Einheiten verdoppelt werden.[2]

Im Jahr 2019 wurde die Präsenz auf Europa ausgeweitet und man gliederte die niederländischen Bestände in den separat notierten European Residential REIT (ERES) aus, an dem CAPREIT weiterhin beteiligt ist.[3] Anfang 2026 wurde bekannt gegeben, dass ERES vollständig übernommen wird und in die CAPREIT Strukturen integriert werden würde.[4][5]
