Baripada ist eine Stadt im ostindischen Bundesstaat Odisha.

Baripada besitzt den Status einer Municipality und ist in 28 Wards gegliedert. Sie ist Verwaltungssitz des Distrikts Mayurbhanj. Die Stadt war die Hauptstadt des ehemaligen Fürstenstaats Mayurbhanj.

Lage

Baripada liegt im äußersten Norden von Odisha 60 km von der Küste des Golfs von Bengalen entfernt am Ufer der Burhabalanga. Die nationale Fernstraße NH 5, die entlang der Ostküste Indiens verläuft, führt durch die Stadt. 50 km südlich liegt die Stadt Baleswar. Westlich der Stadt erstreckt sich über eine bewaldete Hügellandschaft der Similipal-Nationalpark.

Einwohner

Beim Zensus 2011 hatte Baripada 109.743 Einwohner.[1] Das Geschlechterverhältnis lag bei 936 Frauen auf 1000 Männer. 93,91 % der Bevölkerung sind Anhänger des Hinduismus.

Klima

Das Klima in Baripada ist tropisch. Die Jahresmitteltemperatur liegt bei 26,8 °C. Die durchschnittliche Jahresniederschlagsmenge beträgt 1596 mm. Zwischen Juni und Oktober treten die meisten Regenfälle auf. In dieser Zeit besteht in der Region die Gefahr von Zyklonen.

Verkehr

Es gibt die Zugverbindung Baripada – Rupsa, bei Balasore. Von Balasore existieren Verbindungen praktisch zu allen Stationen in Indien. Der Bahnhof Balasore liegt an der Strecke Howrah-Chennai der South Eastern Railway.
