Auki ist die Provinzhauptstadt der salomonischen Provinz Malaita. Sie liegt am nördlichen Ende der Langalanga Lagune und somit der Nord-West-Küste der Insel Malaita. Es finden täglich Flüge zwischen der Hauptstadt Honiara (auf Guadalcanal) und Auki statt. Zudem gibt es einen Fährverkehr zwischen den beiden Städten.

Auki besitzt Elektrizität und die Straße zum Flughafen ist gepflastert (ungefähr 11 km). Auf dem Markt des Ortes, am Hauptkai, wird täglich Obst, Gemüse und frischer Fisch verkauft.

Der zuständige Abgeordnete im Parlament für Auki-Langalanga, Matthew Cooper Wale, wurde im Jahr 2010 gewählt. Er war zuvor Minister für Bildung und Personalentwicklung in der vorherigen Regierung und ist zurzeit stellvertretender Parteivorsitzender der Opposition.[1] Der fünfte anglikanische Bischof von Malaita, Sam Sahu, hat sein Diözese-Büro in Auki. Er verwaltet von dort aus Malaitas 42 Gemeinden.[2][3]

Zudem besitzt der Ort mit dem Auki Correctional Centre ein von den Correctional Services of Solomon Islands betriebenes Gefängnis. Es wurde 2009 gebaut und kann bis zu 60 Häftlinge aufnehmen. Dazu gehört auch ein gesonderter Bereich für Frauen und Jugendliche.[4]
