Amazon Linux ist eine freie und quelloffene Linux-Distribution, die von Amazon speziell für Kunden der Amazon Web Services entwickelt wurde und ausschließlich als Abbild innerhalb der Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud kostenfrei angeboten wird.

Zuvor basierte Amazon Linux auf CentOS, das damals auf Red Hat Enterprise Linux basierte.[2] Am 30. Juni 2026 endete die Unterstützung für Amazon Linux 2.[3]

Mit Amazon Linux 2022 wurde auf Fedora als Basis umgestellt. SELinux ist standardmäßig vorinstalliert. Der Aktualisierungszyklus wurde auf zweijährig umgestellt. Kleine Versionssprünge erscheinen quartalsweise.[4][5]

Amazon Linux 2023 bietet Kernel Live Patching. Größere Aktualisierungen sollen jedoch durch Laden eines neuen Images vorgenommen werden.[6]
