Allison Crowe

Allison Louise Crowe (* 16. November 1981 in Nanaimo, British Columbia) ist eine kanadische Sängerin und Songwriterin, die durch ihre Coverversion von Leonard Cohens Hallelujah weltweite Bekanntheit erlangte.

Leben

Allison Crowe gründete 2003 ihr eigenes Label Rubenesque Records Ltd., nachdem sie den Vertrag mit einem Major Label abgelehnt hatte. Alle Eigenkompositionen veröffentlicht sie unter einer Creative-Commons-Lizenz bei Jamendo und bei Bandcamp.

2008 startete sie eine dreifach Europa-Tour, die sie im Frühjahr in England begann und im Herbst wieder fortsetzte.

2011 fungierte sie als Schirmherrin des Free! Music! Contest des Musikpiraten e.V. und stellte einzelne Tonspuren ihres Lieds Spiral für Remixes zur Verfügung.[1] Beim ebenfalls in den Wettbewerb eingebundenen Portal ccMixter waren nach kurzer Zeit zahlreiche Remixes hochgeladen.[2] Drei davon wurden auf der Bonus-CD des Doppelalbums mit den Gewinner-Beiträgen FreeMixter veröffentlicht.

Während der Weltpremiere von The Doorway: Scenes from Leonard Cohen, einem zeitgenössischen Tanzwerk von Jorden Morris, trat Crow 2012 als Gast im Royal Winnipeg Ballet in Kanada auf.

Im Jahr 2013 veröffentlichte sie die Schallplatte Newfoundland Vinyl, auf dem 10 Songs zu finden sind, teilweise sind es Coverversionen von bekannten Songs.[3] Sie hat die Platte selbst arrangiert und produziert. Das Album Introducing – Heirs+Grievances erschien im Jahr 2016, es ist ein zwei CDs aufgeteilt und enthält 27 Songs, einen Großteil hat Crowe selbst geschrieben.[4] Sowohl Newfoundland Vinyl als auch Introducing – Heirs+Grievances wurden von ihrem eigenen Label Rubenesque Records Ltd. veröffentlicht.

Mittlerweile tritt manchmal mit der Allison Crowe Band auf, mit der sie 2020 das erste Album veröffentlichte.
