Windows NT (NT je skraćenica za New Technology (nova tehnologija)) je naziv za operativni sistem Microsofta i općeniti naziv za niz operativnih sistema izvedenih iz istog.
Karakteristike
Za razliku od prethodnih operativnih sistema koje je Microsoft razvijao za PC platformu, Windows NT je osmišljen kao profesionalni sistem široke primjene i dizajniran "od nule"; sistem arhitekturom više teži Unixu nego MS-DOSu ili Windows 95.
Sistem podržava, između ostalog:
- virtualnu memoriju (VRAM) sa zaštitom pristupa
- duža imena fajlova
- novi format zapisa na disku (NTFS) s pravima pristupa
- Unicode (npr. UTF - unicode text format)
- sistemska prava pristupa različitim internim objektima operativnog sistema
- međuprocesnu komunikaciju
