Porodica Ljubičice (lat. Violaceae), obuhvata veliki broj cvjetnica koja je dobila ime po rodu Viola. Ranije je bila svrstana u vlastiti red Violales, a danas red Malpighiales.[1]

Ova porodica ima 25 rodova[2] sa 806 priznatih vrsta, o kojih 478 vrsta ljubičica. Rasprostranjene su u umjerenom, suptropskom i tropskom pojasu. Prestavnici ove porodice su obično zeljaste, ali ima drvenastih (grmovi i manje drvećeg).

Cvjetovi su im dvospolni, pojedonačni ili u scvatima, a plod je tobolac ili bobica.

Rod Viola odlikuje se ugodnim mirisom i karakterističnim ljubičastim cvjetovima. Predstavnici ovog roda u šumama, rubovima šuma i travnjacima i proplancima; postoji i cijela serija hibridnih vrsta i formi koje su nastale ukrštanjem više vrsta.
