Type 97 Chi-Ni je bio prototip japanskog srednjeg tenka iz perioda drugog svjetstskog rata.
Dizajn japanskih srednjih tenkova se zasnivao na dizajnu britanskog tenka Medium Mark III. U vojnoj upotrebi je bio najrasprostranjeniji tenk Type 89 I-Go koji je bio veoma popularan među japanskim vojnicima. Iz borbenog iskustva u Mandžuriji zaključeno je da se ovaj tenk ne može nositi sa svojim savremenicima. Poboljšanjima odbrambenih i napadačkih svojstava ovog tenka nastao je prototip Type 97 Chi-Ni 1936. godine. Tenk nikad nije ušao u serijsku proizvodnju.[1]
