Thomandersia je mali rod u zasebnoj porodici Thomandersiaceae, cvjetnica u redu Lamiales, razred Magnoliopsida, divizija Tracheophyta.[1]

Ovsj rod ima šest priznatih vrsta grmova i stablašica koje u zapadnoj tropskoj Africi.[2] Rod – porodica imenovan je po škotskom botaničaru Thomasu Andersonu (1832. – 1870.)[3]

Na osnovu morfoloških obilježja, nekoliko autora, uključujući i APG I sistem 1998. i APG II, 2003., vrste ovog roda uobičajeno su smještane u porodicu Acanthaceae. Filogenetska analiza. svih dostupnih dokaza na bazi analiza genetičkog materijala, stavila je, 2005. i 2007, tomandersiju u red Lamiales, ali van porodice Acanthaceae, u koju je ranije obično uvrštavana . Pokazalo se čak da je Thomandersia morfološki izdvojena grupa, izvan svih porodica koje se uključuju u red Lamiales.[4]. Predlaženo je reimenovanje porodice Thomandersiaceae, koja je opisana još 1977. godine na temelju anatomije lista i morfologije antera.
