Propolis

Propolis je smjesa voska i ljepljivih materija koje pčele sakupljaju sa pupoljaka višegodišnjih biljaka. Pčele učvršćuju propolisom saće i zatvaraju pukotine. Ima dezinfekcionu ulogu voštanih ćelija i cijelog pčelinjeg staništa. Propolis sadrži lahko ispariva eterična ulja, koja imaju jasna izražena antimikrobska dejstva. Po izgledu, propolis je smolasta materija žutozelene do tamno crvene boje. Ako se duže čuva, postaje tamniji, i pod uticajem sunca gubi elastičnost. Ima karakterističan smolast miris i nagorak ukus, a po strukturi je gust i homogen.
