Preboot Execution Environment
U računarstvu, Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE, izgovara se kao piksi[1]) specifikacija opisuje standardizirano klijent-server okruženje koje pokreće neki softver, preuzet iz mreže, na PXE-omogućenim klijentima. Klijent koji instalira softver mora imati mrežnu karticu koja podržava PXE, te da podržava DHCP i TFTP.
Koncept PXE nastao je u ranim danima protokola kao što su BOOTP/DHCP/TFTP, a od 2015. dio je standarda Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI). U poslovnom okruženju, PXE je najčešći izbor[2] za pokretanje, instalaciju i implementaciju operativnog sistema.
Danas je gotovo nemoguće pronaći mrežnu karticu bez PXE firmvera. Dostupnost jeftinog Gigabit Ethernet hardvera (mrežne kartice, switchevi, routeri, itd.) učinila je PXE najbržom metodom dostupnom za instaliranje operativnog sistema na računar.

In modern data centers, administrators rarely install new software via removable media such as DVDs. Instead, administrators rely on PXE (Preboot eXecution Environment) booting to image servers.
