Pirol (grč. πυρρός - pyrόs = crven kao vatra + [alkoh]ol) je heterociklični aromatski organski spoj, petočlani prsten sa formulom C4H4NH.[1] To je bezbojna nestabilna tečnost koja potamni nakon izlaganja zraku. Supstituirani derivati se nazivaju pirolima, kao što je npr. N-metilpirol, C4H4NCH3. Porfobilinogen, trosupstituirani pirol, biosintetski je prekursor mnogih prirodnih proizvoda kao što je hem.[2][3][4]

Piroli su komponente više složenih makrociklusa, uključujući porfirine hema, hlorine, bakteriohlorine, hlorofil i porfirinogene.[5]
