U hemiji, molibdat je spoj koji sadrži oksoanion sa molibdenom u njegovom najvišem oksidacijskom stanju 6. Molibden može graditi veoma širok raspon takvih oksoaniona koji mogu biti diskretnih struktura ili proširenih polimernih struktura, mada se ove druge mogu naći samo u čvrstom stanju. Veći oksoanioni su članovi grupe spojeva koji se nazivaju polioksometalati, a pošto mogu sadržavati samo jednu vrstu metalnih atoma, često se zovu i izopolimetalati.[1] Diskretni oksoanioni molibdena imaju raznolike veličine, počev od najjednostavnijeg MoO42−, sadržanog u kalij molibdatu sve do ekstremno velikih struktura prisutnih u izopoli-molibden plavoj koja sadrži 154 atoma Mo. Molibden reagira različito od drugih elemenata iz 6. grupe. Hrom formira samo hromate, CrO42−, Cr2O72−, Cr3O102− and Cr4O132− ione od koji su svi zasnovani na tetrahedralnom hromu. Volfram je slučan molibdenu i može davati mnoge volframate koji sadrže 6-to koordinatni volfram.[2]

Primjeri aniona molibdata

Primjeri oksoaniona molibdata su:

  • diskretni MoO42−, u npr. Na2MoO4 i mineralu powellitu, CaMoO4;
  • diskretni Mo2O72− u tetrabutil amonij solima i polimerni Mo2O72− u amonij solima;[3]
  • polimerni Mo3O102− u etilendiamin solima;[4]
