Jacques Offenbach (Köln, 20. juni 1819. - Pariz, 5. oktobar 1880. godine), njemačko-francuski kompozitor,[1] sin Isaac Juda Ebersta, kantora sinagoge u Kölnu.

Svojim velikim, parodističkim operetama, prožetim neodoljivo privlačnom melodikom i poletnom ritmikom kankana, galopa, quadrille i valcera, izgradio je prototip francuske operete. Komponovao je sto i dva scenska djela, od kojih se posebno ističu operete "Orfej u podzemlju",[2] "Lijepa Helena" i "Pariski život", te romantična, nedovršena, fantastična opera "Hoffmannove priče".[3]
