Gunnera je je rod u porodici Gunneraceae , cvjetnica iz reda Gunnerales ,razreda Magnoliopsida, divizija Tracheophyta.[1] To je rod trajnica bez stabljike, s pužućim ili uspravnim rizomom, a klasificiran je posebnu porodicu.

Rod Gunnera ima 63 priznate vrste raširenih po Srednjoj i Južnoj Americi, od Meksika do Falklanda, na istoku Afrike, od Sudana do Južnoafričke Republike, po dijelovima otočne Azije, na Novoj Gvineji i Novom Zelandu[2]

Poznatija vrsta je gigantska rabarbara, Gunnera manicata, trtajnica ogromnih listova koji mogu imati promjer i do 300 cm. Ova, drugdje ukrasna biljka potiče sa juga Brazila.
