Geoksil

²Geoksil je biljka kod koje se ispod površine tla javlja proširena, podzemna drvenasta struktura. Takve biljke su se razvile nezavisno u različitim biljnim lozama, uglavnom evoluirajući u pliocenu, a potom se razilazeći u posljednja dva miliona godina. Za razliku od svojih bliskih srodnika, ove biljke su se razvile u područjima s visokim padavinama i visokom učestalošću požara. Ponekad su poznate kao podzemna stabla, a područja gdje rastu kao podzemne šume.[1]

Geoksilne oblike rasta drvenastih podgrmova karakteriziraju masivni lignotuberi ili podzemni drvenasti terminali iz kojih izbijaju nadzemni izdanci koji mogu biti kratkotrajni.[2] Ovi oblici rasta nalaze se u savanama u južnoj Africi. Smatra se da su se razvili uporedo sa širenjem savana, što je rezultiralo povećanjem visokih trava, koje su lako zapaljive tokom duge sušne sezone povezane sa savanakom klimom.[3] Neki dobro poznati primjeri geoksila su pješčana jabuka (Parinari capensis), ralica (Erythrina zeyheri), crvena krila (Combretum platypetalum) i divlje grožđe (Lannea edulis= Mau are). Na njihovu pojavu utiču poremećaji u okolini i sezonalnost klime, dok plodnost utiče na funkcionalne tipove i njihovu raznolikost.[5]
