Gazel

Gazel je vrsta kratke lirske pjesme koja se sastoji od 10 do 30 stihova koji čine kratke strofe, katreni. Ove pjesme obično imaju ljubavnu tematiku, bila ta ljubav prema ženi, prijatelju ili uzvišenom biću, Bogu. U gazelu se rimuje 2. i 4. stih, a 1. i 3. ostaju nerimovani. Ova vrsta pjesme je nastala u arapskoj književnosti, ali su je proslavili perzijski pjesnici Sadi i Hafiz. Teme ove pjesme su: ljubav, ljepota, životna radost, ponekad patnja i bol.

Gazele su pisali:

  • Rumi, perzijski mistik i pjesnik iz 13. vijeka
  • Hafiz
  • Fuzuli (16. vijek),
  • Mirza Ghalib (1797–1869)
  • Muhammad Iqbal (1877–1938),

Kroz uticaj Johann Wolfgang von Goethe-a (1749–1832), gazel je postao veoma popularan u Njemačkoj, u 19. vijeku, pa su ovu formu obimno koristili Friedrich Rückert (1788.–1866.) i August von Platen (1796.–1835.).
