Anubis, kao šakal, dok čuva grob

Anubis je egipatsko božanstvo[1] sa glavom šakala. Bog je mumificiranja. U umjetnosti je često prikazan uz mumije, a svećenici su nosili masku šakala tokom procesija. Hermanubis je spoj Anubisa i grčkog boga Hermesa, kojeg su Grci povezali s Anubisom. Sjedište kulta boga Anubisa su staroegipatski gradovi Cynopolis i Lycopolis.

Bog podzemlja

Postoje 2 mita o Anubisovu podrijetlu. Prvi kaže da mu je otac Ra, bog Sunca. Drugi kaže da je Anubis dijete Ozirisa i Neftis, njihov vanbračni sin kojeg je Neftis odbacila, a primila ga je Izida. Kad je odrastao, Anubis je vladao podzemljem. Set je ubio Ozirisa, Anubisovog oca te mu rasjekao tijelo. Izida i Neftis su našle tijelo i spojile ga te ga dale Anubisu. On je izumio balzamiranje i napravio Ozirisovu mumiju; bila je to prva mumija. Anubisov je polubrat Horus, sin Neftis i Ozirisa. Anubisova je žena Anput, a kćer im je Kebehet. Anubis je i pratitelj duša u podzemlje. On mjeri srca ljudi, a pomaže mu Thoth.
